What's Happening up at Cardrona - I Thought it was Closed!
The end of the first week of October marks closing weekend for Cardrona Alpine Resort in Wanaka, New Zealand. The lifts stop, and the front gates close. Not for long though, two days later – it’s all go again!
For some of the world’s elite freestyle snowboarders and skiers, it’s game time. It’s the last springtime training block before the Sochi Winter Olympics in February. Spring snow is soft, which essentially means, more forgiving and less intimidating. Spring snow encourages the attempt of new tricks only done before on trampolines, into foam pits, or in an athlete’s heads. Spring snow, is the time to try.
That's what makes the Cardrona spring camp so special. For it’s 5th year running after closing to the public, Cardrona have provided springtime goodness for the world’s best. Stepping it up each year, this year provides an immaculate spring super pipe, big air booters to air bag, and a spotless jump line – all accessed by chairlift or poma lift. Perfect.
Literally only open to world’s best, the only way you can catch a glimpse of the action is by following some of athletes tweets. The rest I am sure will be revealed in Sochi.
Leading up to Sochi I will be keeping you posted of what kiwis and aussies to look out for – so you better chuck a bookmark on our blog page and stay tuned!
