Broken River

Located on the Craigieburn Range, the Broken River ski area consists of two large, wide open basins. The mountain has a highest point of 1820 metres and a vertical drop of 500 metres.

Broken River offers a unique alternative for adventurous off-piste skiers, telemarkers, and snowboarders looking for no-frills fun in the snow as well as something special and a little different. Start your day with a 4-minute ride up through native forest on New Zealand’s only alpine funicular.

Spend the day exploring over 175 hectares of exciting terrain in Broken River and Allan’s Basins. The rolling bowls suit intermediate levels with lots of room to carve tracks down Sunny Peak and Happy Valley. Advanced riders can enjoy threading their way through the chutes of Nervous Knob and Allan's Basin, which also offers great powder runs and backcountry atmosphere.

No need to rush - chat with locals and relax in the sun at Palmer Lodge over lunch. An exhilarating 700m+ run down through Allan’s Basin to the car park is the ultimate finish to your day.
