Lake Tekapo

Located in the MacKenzie High Country halfway between Wanaka and Christchurch, these ski areas offer great terrain and snow for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, without the crowds that can be found at some of the larger resorts.

The four club fields surrounding Lake Tekapo provide uncrowded slopes and spectacular views. While still offering some challenging runs, these ski areas are not as extreme as those in Craigeburn and are characterised by undulating slopes, a huge area of accessible terrain, and higher and drier snow than anywhere else in New Zealand.

LAKE TEKAPO – NEW ZEALAND

Lake Tekapo is a tiny town located on the shores of a turquoise glacier lake very near to the highest mountain in New Zealand - Mt Cook (3754m). An exquisitely natural area Lake Tekapo experiences a very crisp and clear atmosphere resulting in very cold winters.

It is one of the best places in New Zealand to star gaze due to the clear skies, and offers amazing photo opportunities in all directions. There are a few restaurants and bars in the town but don’t expect to be out dancing until the early hours! Lake Tekapo also features some fantastic hot pools to soak in after a day on the snow.
